A large German supplier operating in the defense and automotive industries. The company employs more than 10,000 people. The project was related to the development of cloud infrastructure used for the company’s IoT activities.
Challenge
The customer needed to deploy a private cloud platform based on OpenStack, Kubernetes and Ceph for its IoT infrastructure.
The task was not limited to building a basic OpenStack cloud. The project required combining cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes within a single environment, integrating additional components such as Gardener and Keycloak, and enabling vGPU capabilities.
Another part of the project was preparing the customer’s internal team to work with the new platform. The team needed knowledge transfer and training in the administration of OpenStack, Gardener, and Kubernetes in a series of workshops.

Project specifics
The project combined several infrastructure layers within a single private cloud environment: OpenStack as the foundation of the cloud platform, Kubernetes for containerized environments, Gardener for working with Kubernetes clusters, and Keycloak for identity and access management.
The project also included not only deployment and integration work but knowledge transfer to the customer’s internal team, which would be working with OpenStack, Gardener, and Kubernetes as administrators.
Solution
Cloudification deployed a private cloud based on OpenStack and Kubernetes using the c12n cloud stack. The project therefore covered both the underlying OpenStack infrastructure layer and the Kubernetes environment used for the IoT and generic workloads.
Gardener and Keycloak were integrated into the cloud platform. Gardener was used as part of the ecosystem for managing Kubernetes clusters on top of OpenStack, while Keycloak was incorporated into the environment as an identity and access management component.
Another area of work was enabling vGPU capabilities based on Nvidia L40. This made it possible to support virtualized GPU resources within the cloud environment alongside the platform’s other compute resources.
The project’s technical stack also included MAAS, Ubuntu, Terraform, and Python. As a result, the scope extended beyond OpenStack and Kubernetes themselves and included tools related to infrastructure provisioning, automation, and supporting cloud operations.
After the technical implementation, Cloudification trained the customer’s team. The training covered the administration of OpenStack, Gardener, and Kubernetes and was included as part of the project itself rather than provided as a separate post-deployment service.
Result
As a result, the customer received a deployed private cloud platform based on OpenStack and Kubernetes for its IoT infrastructure. Gardener and Keycloak were integrated into the environment, and vGPU capabilities were enabled.
The customer’s team also received training in the administration of OpenStack, Gardener, and Kubernetes and gained the knowledge required to work with the key components of the deployed platform.
